I get asked a lot if it’s possible to shoot newborns at home, and the answer is of course, yes. The reason newborn shoots are such a specialised area is that there are some many things to know about handling a baby who is usually under a week old. The safety and comfort of your baby is paramount and reputable photographers train and continue to learn regularly about care and comfort for new babies and of course their mothers.
Many newborn shoots take place in the studio and that is because it is a controlled environment with much useful equipment for posing the baby and being comfortable. But there is no reason, with a little preparation that we couldn’t create a safe environment that also showcases the home your baby is born into, that works for a photo shoot. All we need is a window with natural light, your favourite blankets, cushions and props, and a little bit of creativity.
